I am perplexed by the spaces in-between: a past and future, between unknowing and understanding, or the minuscule atom still between us, even when we touch.
Challenging aspects of intimacy and boundary, I ask
What fills the space between us?
scenes are developed through a natural movement dialogue between models. I play as quiet director while humans explore each other through whatever action the piece bestows upon them. the conversation becomes a dance as subjects create eye contact and a language that is their own. viewers question their sense of boundaries, how close is too close?, while the interpretation is explored by the dancers who have succumbed to the object that is between them. the objects, appearing like toys out of a child’s playroom, or something that is familiar yet unknown, ask the user and viewer to explore themes of dependency, play, and self awareness. slow movements while holding the object without hands requires each user to focus on their communication while exploring objects and each other.
each object is a straw. when users’ mouths hold each end of the straw, it becomes a tool for sharing breath, like a whisper and a kiss.
